Chinese guerrillas guard captured Japanese, Manila, 1945
Chinese guerrillas guard Japs who were captured in Manila dressed as civilians. Conspicuous in center of picture is the Chinese national flag upheld by one of the guerrillas.

"Bleeding, bruised, half starved, and with a cosmos of sad suffering in his dark eyes, this little Filipino boy sits upon a box of dynamite in the rubble of Manila's Walled City- center of concentrated Jap and American fire- with two friends who fared a little better. The boy, seemingly alone, was found trudging about the ruins with all his possessions, a kettle containing a bottle of water, a bucket and cooking utensils. At the bottom of the pail was a container of rice he had planned to soak in water, and thus keep alive. He no longer had a mother to do this chore. The three are now being cared for by medics."

This photograph was taken for the official records of the Government, immediately after the surrender, and furnished for special publication in this work. Aguinaldo [actually it is General Tinio] and his chief-of-staff are the central figures in the line of officers at the back of the picture.

This photograph was taken during the time that Malolos was occupied as the capital of the Philippine Republic, and the men who appear in the picture are officers and guards of the native army.

The desperate character of the insurgents is shown in this wanton destruction of Malolos church. It was fired by them as they fled before the Americans just entering the town. It was done partly in revenge against the religious orders.

The american troops are here entering the public square of Malolos. The church has just been set on fire by the retreating insurgents, ans was burned down nonwithstanding the efforts of the soldiers to save it.
