Child victims after bombings, Manila, 1945
"Bleeding, bruised, half starved, and with a cosmos of sad suffering in his dark eyes, this little Filipino boy sits upon a box of dynamite in the rubble of Manila's Walled City- center of concentrated Jap and American fire- with two friends who fared a little better. The boy, seemingly alone, was found trudging about the ruins with all his possessions, a kettle containing a bottle of water, a bucket and cooking utensils. At the bottom of the pail was a container of rice he had planned to soak in water, and thus keep alive. He no longer had a mother to do this chore. The three are now being cared for by medics."
